Most medical students in Pakistan find out about Toronto Notes from a senior. Not from a professor, not from a syllabus — from someone who already used it and swears by it. That's honestly how most people end up here.
The book started as student-written notes at University of Toronto for their own licensing exam. Somewhere along the way it became one of the most widely circulated medical review books internationally. In Pakistan it found a specific audience — FCPS candidates and final year students who needed broad clinical coverage in one place without reading ten different textbooks.
What Toronto Notes Actually Covers
Internal medicine, surgery, obs and gynae, pediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedics — most major subjects in one book. The format is dense but organized. Lots of tables, algorithms, and quick-reference boxes. Not the kind of book you read like a novel — more like something you keep open next to you while studying other things.
House officers use it a lot during rotations. Quick to check a management protocol. Fast to look up a diagnostic criteria you half-remember from finals. That kind of reference.
2023, 2024 or 2025 — Which One to Buy
Honestly depends on what you need it for.
Toronto Notes 2025 is the latest. Updated drug guidelines, revised diagnostic criteria, current clinical recommendations. If your exam is soon and you want the most current version — this is the one. The premium multicolor matte print version is also available and easier on the eyes during long sessions.
Toronto Notes 2023 and 2024 are still solid. The clinical fundamentals don't change that dramatically year to year. If budget matters — and for most students it does — either of these works fine. Toronto Notes 2020 and 2021 are also here for anyone who needs an older edition for reference or secondary reading.
Using Toronto Notes for FCPS
A lot of FCPS candidates in Pakistan use it alongside their main preparation material. Part 1 is basic science heavy but clinical context still matters — Toronto Notes helps connect those dots. Part 2 needs broad subject coverage and clinical reasoning across multiple specialties. That's where this book genuinely earns its place in the study plan.
SK-KIM First Aid and Last Days Revision Notes for FCPS Part 1 is also listed here — written specifically for Pakistani FCPS candidates and pairs well with Toronto Notes during final revision weeks. If you need more specialty-specific FCPS material, our FCPS books section has dedicated titles for both parts.
Toronto Notes and USMLE
Step 2 CK candidates use it more than Step 1 candidates — makes sense given how clinical Step 2 is. It's not a replacement for First Aid or UWorld. More of a parallel resource for clinical subjects where you want a second perspective or broader coverage. For dedicated USMLE prep material, our USMLE books section has Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 titles.

Quick Answers
Which edition should I get? 2025 if you want the latest. 2023 or 2024 if budget is tight — both are reliable.
Is it enough for FCPS on its own? No. Works best alongside dedicated FCPS prep material, not as a standalone resource.
Good for USMLE? Step 2 CK yes, as supporting material. Step 1 needs more targeted books.
COD available? Yes. All cities in Pakistan.
